Mary Powers
Mary Powers is an artist residing just outside Chicago, where she and her family have lived for over 30 years. While her love of art has been life long, her career as a teacher and mother to five children meant pursing painting primarily as a hobby until her children were raised. Since then she began to study art through numerous workshops focusing on oil, pastel, and watercolor.
In 1996, she attended the school of the art institute of Chicago to fine tune her drawing skills and further improve her work. It was there she earned her certificate of drawing.
Mary has a simple desire to express her feelings and love of color which led her first to oil, eventually to watercolor, pastel and mixed media. She has always been fascinated with the disbursement of color on canvas. It’s the unexpected results that are so exciting. You first study the movement of color and then composition; it often leads to developing various designs such as abstracts. Mary likes you to see the work through shape and form. For her, art is a fascinating and a never ending journey ‘On the Road Less Traveled’.
Powers artwork has often been exhibited throughout the Fox Valley area.
